The new GST 2.0 rollout has brought a major relief for scooter buyers across India. Under the revised structure, two-wheelers with engine capacities of up to 350cc now attract an 18 percent GST, down from the previous 28 percent.
This move has directly impacted the prices of popular commuter scooters, including the Yamaha Ray-ZR 125, which now becomes more affordable for buyers.
The Yamaha Ray-ZR 125 is sold in two versions: the Ray-ZR Hybrid Standard and the Ray-ZR Hybrid Street Rally. With the revised tax rates, the Standard variant has received a price cut of Rs 7,325, bringing its new ex-showroom price to Rs 80,875. Meanwhile, the sportier Street Rally variant now costs Rs 85,974, after a Rs 7,786 reduction.
Both versions of the Ray-ZR are powered by a 125cc air-cooled, 4-stroke, SOHC, 2-valve engine equipped with Yamaha’s hybrid assist technology. The motor delivers 8.2 PS of power at 6,500 rpm and 10.3 Nm of torque at 5,000 rpm, aided by the Smart Motor Generator for better start-stop performance and improved acceleration. The engine uses a 10.2:1 compression ratio and comes mated to a CVT automatic transmission.
In terms of dimensions, the Ray-ZR measures 1,880 mm in length, 685 mm in width, and 1,190 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 1,280 mm. It offers a seat height of 785 mm, ground clearance of 145 mm, and a kerb weight of 99 kg. The fuel tank capacity stands at 5.2 litres, and it offers a 21-litre underseat storage space – enough for a half-face helmet or daily essentials.
The scooter rides on a telescopic front fork and a unit swing rear suspension. Braking duties are handled by a 190mm front disc and a rear drum brake, assisted by Unified Braking System (UBS). It runs on 90/90-12 front and 110/90-10 rear tubeless tyres. Feature highlights include LED DRLs, a digital instrument console, Y-Connect smartphone connectivity, side stand engine cut-off, answer back function, and a maintenance-free 12V, 5.0Ah battery.
