Maareesan Movie Review: What’s Good, What’s Bad In Vadivelu-Starrer? Find Out

Sudheesh Sankar-directorial Tamil movie Maareesan has Vadivelu and Malayalam actor Fahadh Faasil in the leads. Kovai Sarala, Vivek Prasanna, Sithara, PL Thenappan, Livingston, Renuka and others in the supporting cast.

The movie has Yuvan Shankar Raja’s music, Kalaiselvan Sivaji’s cinematography and Sreejith Sarang’s editing.

Story:

In an unlikely pairing, the film follows local thief Dhayalan (Fahadh Faasil) as he crosses paths with Maareesan (Vadivelu), an Alzheimer’s patient with a task to complete. The chemistry between the two leads is a highlight, with Faasil delivering a nuanced performance reminiscent of his role in Thondimuthalum Drikshashiyum. Vadivelu is equally captivating, fully immersing himself in a curious character that showcases his underutilized talent in non-comedic roles.

The movie has managed to generate a good pre-release buzz. The trailer and promos have managed to impress the viewers. Will it live up to the viewers’ expectations? Well, the movie had a special premiere for the critics and movie influencers on Wednesday evening. Find out what they say about the film:

Rajasekar: #Maareesan – 3.25 out of 5, a slow burn thriller that is impressive with its twists and turns. Especially the intermission twist and what happens in the pre-climax keep you intrigued.

A completely different role for #Vadivelu who kind of plays a role that was once a dream for many big heroes in Tamil, especially in 90s and early 2000s.

#FahadhFaasil is once again impressive here as a thief but he transforms into someone toward the end.

The backstory is something that has been explored quite a lot in recent times in Tamil cinema.

goes experimental mode in many occasions and it’s impressive. He has also given a twist to his dad Ilaiyaraaja’s famous track , which is .

Overall, Maareesan is for thriller lovers , especially those who love to see twists and turns coming in at the important moments in the film and okay with a familiar backdrop!

Kollywood Cinema: #Maareesan #KcReview 4/5 by #Ameer

#Yuvan’s songs and BGM are a major highlight, perfectly setting the mood. The story builds gradually but rewards with gripping twists in the latter half⚡. Strong emotional connect makes the film even more impactful and memorable ♥️.

Siddarth Srinivas: #Maareesan (3.25/5) – Good drama with a dose of thrill. The combo of Fahadh Faasil and the veteran Vadivelu works out well for the film, they click together. Liked the element of doubt that the film keeps intact in the first half, the second half has some reveals and an emotional backstory.

Though some parts of the film are generic, it gets through thanks to the performances of the lead duo and their unique traits on screen. After Maamannan, it’s nice to see Vadivelu in a serious role that sparks curiosity, and Fahadh’s impressive performance here will remind you of his own Thondimuthalum Drikshashiyum.

Really liked@thisisysr’s score, it is not easy to compose for a film like this which is a mix of genres, but Yuvan does a great job. His special remix track is a nice theatre moment in the second half.

On the whole, Maareesan is not that kind of film that’ll bring you to the edge of the seat, it is a neat and tidy drama that will keep you engaged with its emotions and turns.
