‘You are not in school’: Manager refuses to give sick leave to employee with headache

New Delhi: An Indian manager is under fire after refusing to grant a sick leave to an employee suffering from a headache. The incident came to light after the employee exposed the manager through a Reddit post. Sharing screenshot of their WhatsApp conversation on the platform, he asked, “How does one even work with a headache??”

As per the chat, the employee told the manager that he was having a headache and wanted to take the day off. However, the manager insisted on the employee coming to office. He told him that he could come to work after taking medicine.

“Take the medicine and come. It’s nothing, it will get better. It’s just a headache,” said the manager. The employee responded, “I’ll take a Dolo and see from there.” Later, the employee texted that he wouldn’t be able to make it. However, that did not change the manager’s mind.

The manager texted, “Take the medicine hero. You don’t get leave for a headache. What are you talking about? You are not in school any more. You’re part of the company now. Take some rest if needed, but come to the office.”

Social media users were miffed at the manager and his attitude. They called him out in the comments, labelling it “horrible”. Many reminded the employee that he was entitled to sick leaves and he just needed to apply for one.

“You are entitled for a sick leave, just apply for on,” said one. Another stated that employees are easily replaceable and giving 100 percent at work was just foolish. Netizens also urged the man to stand up for himself and set boundaries at work.

“Make note of each and every instance with proofs, testimony, mails, voice recordings, messages like these (make sure to delete his contact from phone so that his phone no is visible). When the time is right, hit them with all this incriminating evidence,” advised another.
