ICC penalises India and West Indies for slow over rate in 3rd ODI

New Delhi: India and West Indies were on Monday penalised by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for maintaining slow over-rates during the third ODI in Mullanpur, Punjab.

 beat India by five wickets in the third and final ODI as the hosts clinched the three-match series 2-1.

ICC has fined  20 per cent of their match fee, while West Indies have been docked 10 per cent of their match fee for failing to keep up with the required over rate during the third ODI. India were four overs short of the required mark while West Indies were two overs short after time allowances were taken into consideration.

The charges were levelled against both teams by on-field umpires Jayaraman Madanagopal and Sam Nogajski, third umpire Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid and fourth umpire Virender Sharma. Match referee Prakash Bhatt imposed the sanctions after both captains pleaded guilty to the offences and accepted the proposed fines.

Shai Hope powers West Indies to record run chase

Shai Hope slammed a brilliant knock of unbeaten 162 to help West Indies pull off their highest run chase in ODIs and beat India by 5 wickets in the third and final ODI on Saturday. Hope combined with Amir Jangoo (67) to help West Indies chase down the target of 352 runs with 10 balls to spare and secure a thumping victory.

The victory helped West Indies pull one back and end the three-match series 2-1 after India won the first two games in a row. The two teams will now lock horns in a five-match T20I series, starting Tuesday, October 06. The first T20I is set to be played at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow, followed by the next four matches in Ranchi, Indore, Hyderabad and Bengaluru, respectively.

Shreyas Iyer-led India will head into the series on the back of their gold medal triumph in the Asian Games 2026 and will be hopng to continue their fine form. India defeated Japan in the final of the men’s cricket event at the Asian Games 2026 to win their second successive gold medal last week.
