BCCI, SLC set to miss Asian Cricket Council’s annual meeting in Dhaka

New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) have decided to skip the Asian Cricket Council’s (ACC) annual general meeting in Dhaka on July 23 and 24. This comes after both the boards had requested the ACC to shift the venue of the of the meeting from Dhaka citing security concerns due to the current turmoil in the country.

Meanwhile, it is yet not clear that whether the representatives from both the boards would join the meeting online but its clear that they won’t be attending it in person. As of now, only the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) CEO would be joining the meeting in person. As per a report in ESPNcricinfo, the ACC is yet to comment on the absence of the two most important boards in the five full members.

Asia Cup 2025 major talking point in meeting

Earlier, news regarding the absence of Afghanistan and Oman also went viral that both the boards will also miss the event but now they would be present in physical for the board meeting. The forthcoming Asia Cup is expected to be the major talking point at the meeting. The event is scheduled to be held in the month of September in the UAE will feature eight teams with the BCCI holding the hosting rights.

BCCI’s absence from the all-important board meeting means that it could have serious implications for the Asia Cup also. This will mark the first time that the BCB would host a high-level meeting on their soil. BCB president Aminul Islam said that they were only providing logistical support to the ACC, refraining to comment on BCCI’s and SLC’s absence.

‘We agreed with the ACC to organise this year’s AGM, Aminul said. It is an ACC programme. We are providing them with logistical support. That’s all we are doing. We are in touch with the ACC, who is informing us who is coming and who is not, as we have to make arrangements for airport pick-ups, hotel bookings and other support,’ he added.
