Vidarbha’s Yash Thakur and the Rest Of India’s Yash Dhull nearly got into a brawl on the last day of the Irani Cup 2025, on Sunday, October 5. On a thrilling last day of play, when the Delhi batter was in fine form, Thakur dismissed Dhull, which led to the incident.
The ROI batter attempted a cut shot after Thakur bowled a short delivery on the opening ball of the 63rd over when Dhull was batting at 92 off 116 balls. Atharva Taide made a brilliant catch close to the boundary line after Dhull failed to control the shot, after which Thakur celebrated wildly.
Given that the game was still in the balance and that Dhull was the crucial wicket for the hosts, the Vidarbha pacer was quite vocal in his celebrations. However, the ROI batter took offence with Thakur’s celebrations, and the two men approached one another while using foul language.
When the on-field officials intervened to maintain order and keep the players apart, it seemed as though the emotions were about to erupt. The bowler was observed conversing with the umpires when the Vidharbha players intervened to remove Thakur from Dhull.
Both players’ antics were criticised by the commentators, with Vivek Razdan stating that they should be mindful of their limitations.
“There was a bit of a tussle in the middle, as such was the atmosphere. But one should remember to know their limits. It is of utmost importance.”
Vidharbha defeated the Rest of India by 93 runs to win their third Irani Cup championship. ROI began the day with 30 for 2, but they continued to lose wickets at regular intervals until Dhull and Manav Suthar put together a 104-run partnership for the seventh.
ROI was ultimately bowled out for 267 after Thakur took the early wickets of Dhull and Anshul Kamboj.
