Trump’s work will not work, India will continue to buy crude oil from Russia

Crude oil

US President Donald Trump is constantly instructing India not to buy oil from Russia. Trump also imposed an additional 25 percent tariff on India, but India did not stop the purchase of oil. In September, there was a slight decline in India’s crude oil imports from Russia, but more than one-third of the country’s total oil procurement remained more than one-third. Experts believe that Russia will remain India’s largest oil buyer country.

In September, India imported around 47 lakh barrels of crude oil every day, which was 2,20,000 barrels more than last month, but remained stable compared to last year. Russia supplied the highest numbering of 16 million barrels daily, which is 34% of the total imports. However, according to the initial data from Cape, it was 1,60,000 below the average Russian import of the first eight months of 2025.

Russian oil is cheaper option for India

Capler researcher Sumit Ritolia said that even though the amount of dandruff oil decreased slightly, it remains the cheapest and beneficial option for Indian refineries, as it gives good profits and also gives exemption compared to others. Iraq caught the second number with 8,81,115 barrels daily, then Saudi Arabia (6,03,471 barrels) and UAE (5,94,152 barrels).

India’s largest supplier

The US finished fifth with 2,06,667 barrels daily. Russia became India’s largest oil supplier after the Ukraine War began in 2022, which overtook older suppliers like Iraq and Saudi Arabia. When some Western countries stopped buying Russian oil, Russia sold oil at cheap prices, which was bought by Indian refineries so that the growing demand could be met.

Donald Trump put an additional 25% tariff on Indian goods, which was above the already 25% tariff. But China, who is the second big buyer of Russian oil, did nothing against him. Russian oil will remain important for India as the demand for fuel in the nature season.
