Kolkata (West Bengal): Former Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLA Jahangir Khan was arrested around 2:30 pm on Monday. West Bengal Special Task Force (STF) took this action in collaboration with Darjeeling Police. Jahangir was caught from Panitanki market, which is close to the Nepal border. Several cases were registered against him at Falta police station of Diamond Harbor police district and the police was looking for him. Let us tell you that Panitanki market is a town area of Darjeeling district of West Bengal, which is located near the border of Nepal.
Jahangir Khan had fled the field
Jahangir Khan had contested the Falta Assembly seat last month, but withdrew his name from the election just before the re-polling held on May 21. TMC had called it ‘cheating’, while BJP leaders had taunted him for ‘running away from the field’. In the re-election on this seat, BJP candidate Debangshu Panda had won by a huge margin of 1,09,021 votes. He defeated Communist Party of India (Marxist) candidate Shambhu Nath Kurmi.
Many TMC leaders have been arrested
- Following the arrest of Jahangir Khan, West Bengal Minister Agnimitra Paul reiterated that anyone who harms the citizens of Bengal will not be spared. “Whether it is Pushpa or anyone else, those who tortured the people of Bengal have never been spared,” he told reporters.
- Let us tell you that the investigating agencies are tightening the noose on TMC leaders in many cases related to corruption in West Bengal. Many leaders were also arrested on June 4.
Used to say the dialogue ‘Pushpa will not bow, you bastard’
Let us tell you that during the campaign in Bengal elections, Jahangir Khan had presented himself like the South film character Pushpa. Not only this, Arjun used to utter Allu’s famous dialogue ‘Pushpa Jhukega Nahi Saala’ in the rallies. That is, what he meant to say was that he would not bow down before anyone. But when the assembly results came, he fled from Bengal and hid somewhere. But the police have now arrested him.
Big split in TMC
All these incidents are happening at a time when there is a big split in TMC after being in power for 15 years. In a major blow to the party leadership, 58 out of 80 TMC MLAs have reportedly approached Assembly Speaker Rathindranath Bose. Staking his claim on the TMC legislature party, he has elected MLA Ritabrata Banerjee, who was recently expelled from the party, as the leader of the opposition.
