Asian Games 2026: Dhiraj Bommadevara Hails Team Spirit After India’s Recurve Archery Silver

India’s men’s recurve archery team secured a silver medal at the Asian Games 2026 after going down to South Korea in the gold-medal clash at the Okazaki Chuo Sogo Park Multipurpose Square in Japan on Friday (October 2).

The Indian trio of Dhiraj Bommadevara, Yashdeep Bhoge and Neeraj Chauhan produced a strong campaign to reach the final, but faced a formidable South Korean side featuring Lee Woo-seok, Kim Je-deok and Kim Woo-jin.

South Korea eventually prevailed 5-1 on set points, securing its second consecutive Asian Games gold in the men’s team recurve event. India started the final strongly but could not maintain the momentum as the Korean archers remained composed in the crucial sets.

Despite the final defeat, the silver marked another significant medal for India’s archery contingent at Aichi-Nagoya 2026. The country had already enjoyed a historic day in recurve archery, with the women’s team winning India’s maiden Asian Games gold in the event after defeating South Korea 5-3.

The men’s silver further strengthened India’s impressive showing in archery at the Games and underlined the depth of the country’s recurve programme. After winning the Silver medal, the Indian archer spoke to the media, hailing the women’s team and their gold medal achievement.

“It feels really special, really good. First of all, I would like to congratulate our women’s team for the historic gold. It feels really nice for all of the team. All of our confidence just got up after that. We really did our best. We just believe in ourselves, our team.

Whatever we are getting today, we are happy for that. And we are going to fight until the last arrow,” Bommadevara said.

The Indian archer also hailed his teammates and said the mutual camaradarie and learnings he takes away from his teammates.

“For me, it’s really like I don’t see who starts when. And for me, it’s like I learn from everyone. And honestly, that time many of our juniors are new in this team. And I really learn a lot of things from them. And we are really flexible to each other. To learning, sharing the experiences,” he added.
