New Delhi: Harry Kane was the difference-maker once again as Bayern Munich booked their place in the Club World Cup quarter-finals with a 4-2 win over Flamengo in Miami. The England captain struck twice and ensured Bayern held off a spirited Flamengo side in an entertaining clash. With this goal, he took his tally for the season to 41 goals.
Flamengo came into the game on an impressive 11-match unbeaten run but their plans were quickly derailed. Just six minutes in, Erick Pulgar turned a Joshua Kimmich corner into his own net, giving Bayern the early lead. It got worse for the Brazilian side moments later when Kane pounced on a loose ball after Dayot Upamecano’s tackle and fired in a low strike, helped along by a deflection off Leo Ortiz.
Despite falling behind early, Flamengo refused to fold. Gerson pulled one back with a powerful drive that flew past Manuel Neuer, giving their large travelling support a reason to believe. But Bayern restored their two-goal cushion before the break, Leon Goretzka curling in a long-range effort that caught Agustin Rossi wrong-footed.

Flamengo didn’t give up the fight and found a way back into the game early in the second half. Jorginho calmly slotted home a penalty after Michael Olise was penalised for handball, making it 3-2 and setting up a tense finish. But once again, Kane was on hand to snuff out any hopes of a comeback, finishing clinically from a Kimmich pass to seal Bayern’s victory with just under 20 minutes to play.
The game was a showcase of Flamengo’s attacking intent and bravery, with Luiz Araújo and Giorgian de Arrascaeta both coming close to scoring, while the fans in red and black kept the noise alive throughout the match. Yet, as Kane pointed out after the final whistle, Bayern were ruthless in key moments, taking their chances when it mattered most.
“It is about moments and we took our moments very well,” Kane said. “We stayed calm and scored our goals at the right time.”
What next?
With this victory, Bayern Munich now move on to face Paris Saint-Germain in the quarter-finals of the Club World Cup in Atlanta on Saturday, 5 July. Meanwhile, Flamengo will return to Brazil to resume their Serie A campaign, where they face Santos on 17 July, looking to channel their fighting spirit from Miami back into their domestic push.
