The day has finally arrived for Jason Sanjay, son of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and former superstar Thalapathy Vijay, as his directorial debut film, Sigma, releases globally in cinemas today. Ahead of its grand premiere, the young filmmaker shared his thoughts on how his influential father might react to his first cinematic venture, providing a rare glimpse into their dynamic and his aspirations as a director.
CM Vijay’s Anticipated Verdict on ‘Sigma’
In a revealing conversation on the ‘Pearle Maaney Show’, Jason Sanjay discussed his father, Vijay, who assumed office as the ninth Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on May 10, 2026. When asked about Vijay’s potential reaction to Sigma, Jason described his father as a thoughtful and analytical individual. “Usually he is a very quiet person. He always takes his time. He needs more time to analyse a movie,” Jason explained.
Despite his father’s measured approach, Jason expressed confidence, stating, “But he would be proud because it is my first film”. He further revealed that, in an effort to carve his own path, he did not share the film’s script with either his father or his grandfather, veteran filmmaker SA Chandrasekhar.
Insights from the Pearle Maaney Show and Beyond
The interview with Pearle Maaney offered deeper insights into Jason Sanjay’s journey and vision. The 26-year-old director, who studied film production in Toronto and screenwriting in London, disclosed that the first person he narrated the story of ‘Sigma’ to was actor Dulquer Salmaan, describing it as a “wonderful experience”.
Addressing the unique pressure of being the son of both a superstar and now a Chief Minister, Jason expressed his desire to forge his own identity in the industry. He candidly shared that if he ever gets the opportunity to direct his father, he would aim to showcase a different side of Vijay – his “fun, innocent and humorous side” – rather than focusing on his iconic action or ‘mass’ moments. Jason recalled, “Audiences once enjoyed him in light-hearted romantic comedies with relatable characters… He has a very childlike nature in real life, and when it comes alive on screen, it is very, very cute”.
