Why do Nagas love Panchami Tithi?
This year Nag Panchami will be celebrated on 27 July. The festival of Nag Panchami has special significance in Hinduism. This is the festival of worship of serpents. On this day, people of Hinduism are worshiped with complete law and order.
The existence of serpents is believed to be from Maharishi Kashyap and his wife Kadru. According to the Bhavishya Purana, both of them are parents of the Nag caste. The festival of Nag Panchami is celebrated in different ways in different parts of India. A mythological story is told behind the beginning of assuming it.
Kadru, the mother of snakes, cursed her children
According to the legend, once the two wives of the sage Kadru and Vinita were Vihara together, when they saw a white horse. Kadru said that this horse’s tail was black but Vinita said that not the horse’s very tail was white. Kadru did not want to lose to Vinita, so she told her sons to go and cling to the tail so that it seems that the tail is black. But when the sons refused to do so, Kadru cursed his own children that the King of the Pandava dynasty would be Janmajayya who will destroy you. You will die by burning in the yagna.
The believer sage saved the life of snakes
The same thing happened that King Parikshit, the father of King Janmajay, bitten him, which led to his death. Angered by this, King Janmajay performed the snake maha yagya, in which crores of snakes started burning. Then the believer reached Muni and he convinced the king not to do so. He put cold milk on the serpents, which saved the life of the serpents. Then Brahma ji appeared and gave the boon to the serpents to preserve their existence on earth. The day the life of the serpents was Panchami Tithi. Since then, this date is very dear to the serpents. Since then, the serpents are worshiped on this date, they are offered milk and it is believed that the serpent gods will always protect them.
