Chennai: As Cyclone Shakti gains strength over the Arabian Sea, private weather blogger Pradeep John, widely known as the ‘Tamil Nadu Weatherman,’ has forecast continued widespread rainfall across Tamil Nadu for the next two days. The cyclone, which is currently moving over the sea, is expected to intensify further, influencing weather patterns and bringing significant precipitation to the state.
The forecast comes as many parts of Tamil Nadu, including Chennai, have already been experiencing nocturnal downpours. Heavy rain was recorded in several areas of the capital city last night, and the wet spell is set to continue. According to meteorological assessments, light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning is also likely in Puducherry and Karaikal areas, with a high probability of showers in Chennai and its suburbs during the night and morning hours.
Cyclone Shakti has formed in the Arabian Sea over open waters. It will intensify further while remaining over the sea. As it weakens, steering winds push it towards the Gujarat coast and only for it to be redirected back into the open seas once again.

Cyclone Shakti Effect: District-Wise Rainfall Warnings and Precautions
The weather alert spans the entire state. A warning for heavy rain has been issued for north coastal Tamil Nadu, specifically in Kanchipuram, Tiruvallur, Chengalpattu, and Chennai. Similarly, southern districts including Theni, Virudhunagar, Madurai, Sivaganga, and Tirunelveli are expected to receive rains. The western districts of Salem, Namakkal, Coimbatore, and the Nilgiris, along with the delta regions of Trichy, Thanjavur, and Nagapattinam, are also bracing for showers.
Pradeep John, in his analysis, stated that while Cyclone Shakti is a powerful system “roaming alone in the vast Arabian Sea,” its changing winds are likely to push it towards the Gujarat coast as it weakens. “It wants to touch the land,” he noted, adding that its journey over the sea will further increase its intensity. The Meteorological Department has also reiterated its warning for fishermen to avoid venturing into the sea and to adhere to instructions from the state government and weather centers.
