In the second ODI of the three-match series against the West Indies, Indian captain Shubman Gill won the toss and decided to field first at Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati on Wednesday.
India leads the series 1-0, following a remarkable performance in the first match, where Kuldeep Yadav took four wickets and Virat Kohli scored an impressive 139 runs off 88 balls while chasing a target of 299 in Thiruvananthapuram.
During the toss, Gill announced that Jammu and Kashmir’s pace bowler Auqib Nabi would make his debut, taking the place of all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy. He mentioned, “We are opting to bowl first due to the grass and patchy appearance of the pitch. Our comeback in the last match was commendable, but the humidity here poses a challenge for our bowlers. Everyone is in good shape, including Rohit. Nabi is making his debut in place of Nitish.”
West Indies’ Response
West Indies captain Shai Hope expressed that they would have chosen to field as well, stating, “The toss is always a 50-50 situation, but we have another opportunity to perform well. There are areas we need to enhance, and the pitch looks promising.”
