Samajwadi Party MP Zia ur Rehman Burke was prevented from going to Bareilly amid ‘I Love Mohammed’ controversy. Burke attacked the UP government and said that it is a murder of democracy. Opposition allegations – BJP government is trying to suppress the truth.

A new controversy emerged on Saturday in Uttar Pradesh politics, when the delegation under the leadership of Samajwadi Party MP Zia Ur Rehman Burke was stopped by the police from moving forward. Burke described the move as “undemocratic and unjust” and accused the government of suppressing the voice of the opposition.

“When the situation is normal then why stop?” – Jia ur Rahman Burke

MP Burke said, “When the Bareilly administration and the government are saying that everything is normal, then why are we being prevented from going there? Our aim was to meet the victim families only to know the truth and cooperate in getting justice, not to create any kind of controversy.”

He left for Bareilly from the residence of senior leader Harendra Singh Malik along with MP Iqra Hasan, Mohibullah Nadvi and Jia ur Rehman Burke himself. The visit was being done on the instructions of Mata Prasad Pandey, Leader of Opposition. But on the way, the entire team was stopped by deploying heavy police.

“The right to speak the opposition in democracy” – SP MP Awadhesh Prasad

SP MP Awadhesh Prasad said, “The government is not allowing the opposition leaders to meet the people at the behest of the BJP. In democracy, the opposition has the same right as the ruling party. It is a direct violation of democratic rights.” He alleged that the delegation which had come out to bring out the truth, listen to the victims and demand justice, was stopped in the name of ‘Shanti breach’.

SP MLA Aaur Rahman said that his aim was to know only the ground reality so that the police action could be helped with injustice.

Recently, dozens of youth were detained in Bareilly for raising the slogan ‘I Love Mohammed’. The administration says that the situation is normal and action was taken to maintain peace. At the same time, the opposition alleges that the government is making communal discrimination and innocent people are being targeted. Currently, the matter is being warmed up with a ban on the entry of the SP delegation, while the administration is calling the situation “completely under control”.
