The Indian cricket team has been announced for ODI and T20 series on Australia tour. The news that the fans were waiting have also been stamped. BCCI has announced the change of captaincy in ODI format. Rohit Sharma, who won the Champions Trophy 2025 to Team India, is no longer the captain of the team. Her Test team captain and star opener Shubman Gill has also got the captaincy of the team in ODI format.
Indian ODI team gets new captain
The BCCI Senior Men’s Selection Committee met on Saturday 4 October for the tour of Australia starting from 19 October. Apart from the selection of the players in this meeting, it was also decided about the captaincy in view of the need of the future and finally this change was announced after several weeks of speculation. The selection committee headed by Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar has also appointed Shubman Gill as the captain of the ODI team. This decision was taken in view of Gill’s captaincy, bat performance and ODI format in his team in view of a confirmed place in India.
Shubman Gill was made the vice-captain of Team India during the Champions Trophy earlier this year, after which it was being estimated that he could be the captain of the team after Rohit. However, his claim was strengthened by the tour of England, where he was made the new captain of the Test team and there he not only draws series 2-2, but also took the captaincy burden and became the most successful batsman by scoring a record 754 runs. Apparently this demonstration encouraged the selectors and coach Gautam Gambhir to bet on him for ODI format as well.
