Police arrested two guys in Thrissur for blackmailing a minor girl. They threatened to leak her Instagram chats and photos, and extorted Rs 50,000 and 20 sovereigns of gold from her.
Thrissur: Police arrested two accused for blackmailing a minor girl and extorting cash and 20 sovereigns of gold from her. The accused threatened the girl that they would upload her private Instagram chats and photos online. They also scared her saying they would send these to her family. Using this threat, they looted Rs 50,000 and 20 sovereigns of gold ornaments. Police identified the accused as 23-year-old Muhammad Sahal from Pazhuparambil house near Eriyad PSN Kavala, and an 18-year-old boy. The 18-year-old was a minor (a child in conflict with the law) when the crime happened. Police will produce Sahal in court after completing the paperwork. They will take action against the 18-year-old under the Juvenile Justice Act.
The accused and the minor boy teamed up to blackmail the victim. They threatened to leak her chats and photos on Instagram and share them with her family. Under this pressure, they extorted Rs 50,000 from her in October 2025 and 20 sovereigns of gold in April 2026. The blackmail did not stop there. They kept demanding more money from her. The girl finally broke down and told her family everything. Her family immediately filed a case at the police station. A police team from Kodungallur Police Station caught the accused. The team included Inspector SHO Baiju, SI Atul, SI Ajay, SCPO Manoj, and CPO Sherif.
