Indian vlogger takes ‘first-class’ train in Myanmar for Rs 350, shares what it’s really like

We usually picture plush seats, chilled air-conditioning and endless food service in first-class train journeys. But a recent video from Myanmar shows a very different version of “first class.”

An Indian travel vlogger shared his experience of travelling nearly 500 km in what Myanmar Railways calls a first-class coach. The journey, which took about 15 to 20 hours, cost him just Rs 350 and offered plenty of surprises along the way.

In his viral video, the vlogger described the experience as simple but memorable. The seats were basic yet comfortable and the large windows gave an uninterrupted view of Myanmar’s countryside. While the coach lacked air conditioning, it had several ceiling fans and even designated smoking areas, a rarity in Indian trains.

Food and drinks were available on board, including alcoholic beverages such as beer, whisky and brandy. “It may not be first class for you, but it is first class for the people of Myanmar,” the vlogger said in the clip. He added that the journey offered “a real glimpse of the country through villages and landscapes.”

The Instagram video was captioned, “350 miles across Myanmar. First class train ride for just Rs 350 ($4). Comfortable seats, amazing views and a true glimpse of the country.”

Netizens flooded the comments section with mixed reactions. “Our Indian Railways trains are in much better condition than this,” one wrote. Another commented, “At least they thought about having a smoking area. In India, people smoke illegally in toilets.” Some appreciated the cleanliness, calling it “organised and neat.”

In Myanmar, trains are divided into Upper Class, First Class and Ordinary Class. Sleeper coaches are available only on select routes such as Rangoon–Mandalay and Rangoon–Bagan.
