Chennai: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a forecast predicting heavy rainfall in 12 districts of Tamil Nadu today, October 4, 2025. The alert covers northern and central districts, including Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kanchipuram, Chengalpattu, Villupuram, Ranipet, Vellore, Tirupattur, Tiruvannamalai, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, and Ramanathapuram.

According to the weather bulletin, widespread light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning is expected at several places across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal. However, the identified 12 districts have been specifically highlighted for the likelihood of isolated heavy downpours. The forecast has put residents and authorities in these regions on alert for potential waterlogging and disruptions.

Chenni Experiences Early Morning Showers, Unsettled Weather to Continue

The capital city, Chennai, and its suburbs have already begun experiencing the predicted weather pattern, with widespread rain and strong winds reported since the early hours of the morning. Areas including Vadapalani, Teynampet, Kodambakkam, and Nungambakkam witnessed significant showers. The IMD has stated that the sky will remain generally cloudy over the city throughout the day, with moderate rain, thunderstorms, lightning, and occasional heavy spells likely in some areas.

The maximum temperature in Chennai is expected to be around 31-32° Celsius, while the minimum will likely hover between 23-24° Celsius. Looking ahead, the heavy rain alert is set to shift southward on Tuesday, with districts like Madurai, Virudhunagar, Sivaganga, Theni, and Dindigul expected to receive heavy rainfall. From October 6 to 9, the intensity is predicted to lessen, with only light to moderate rain likely at a few places across the state and union territories.
