According to religious belief, on the night of Kojagara Lakshmi Puja Goddess Lakshmi roams the earth. She looks for homes that are kept clean and well lit. She then enters these homes and asks, “Who is awake?” This is why the ritual is called Kojagara Lakshmi Puja. People celebrate by preparing several offerings for the goddess, which includes fruits and sweets.

Those who light their homes beautifully and remain awake through the night are blessed with her presence. With Goddess Lakshmi’s grace, such households are said to be filled with wealth, happiness, prosperity and abundance.
