Drishti IAS Misleading Advertisement: The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has taken a big action on the country’s well-known coaching institute Darshan IAS. CCPA has also imposed a fine of Rs 5 lakh on the institute for misleading advertisements regarding the result of UPSC Civil Services Examination 2022. Know what is the whole matter of misleading advertisement.

What is the whole case of Drishti IAS misleading advertisement?

According to the report, Darshan IAS had claimed in its campaigning that more than 216 students have been selected in the UPSC exam. But after investigation, it was found that the claim was incomplete and misleading. In fact, most of these students participated in the free interview practice program of the institute only, not in the main course. Investigation revealed that out of 216 candidates, 162 students (about 75%) were only involved in the interview practice program, while only 54 students had done other courses of the institute. That is, the institute hidden real information and misled the candidates and their families.

Vision IAS has been fined earlier

This is not the first time Vision IAS is accused of false advertising. In September 2024, the institute was fined Rs 3 lakh for spreading similar wrong information. Even at that time, the institute had made a big claim about the results of UPSC CSE 2021, which proved to be wrong.

What do coaching institutes do in false advertisements, what does it affect?

False advertising means that many coaching institutes hide such important information in advertisement, such as-

  • What course did the student do
  • When did you take admission
  • How long did you prepare
  • This causes parents and candidates to get into misunderstanding and assume that the entire success has been achieved only because of that coaching. Such claims give false expectations to students as well as families.
