New Delhi: The overhaul at the Rajasthan Royals continues as two more key members from the support staff have been shown the door. After the exists of head coach Rahul Dravid and CEO Jake Lush McCrum, the franchise has now ended contracts with spin-bowling coach Sairaj Bahutule and fielding coach Dishant Yagnik, as per a report in Cricbuzz.
However, uncertainty remains over the continuation of skipper Sanju Samson, who has asked for a release but the franchise is yet to given a go ahead. Meanwhile, Bahutule joined the franchise in the last year post a stint at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. On the other hand, Yagnik’s association with the franchise has been a long one, beginning as a player before transitioning into the role of fielding coach.
Varun Ghosh also relieved from his contract
It is also being learnt that both the players had a clue about the end of their contracts as Yagnik had recently shared a cryptic post hinting at his exit from the franchise. Additionally, it is also being learnt that the strength and conditioning coach Varun Ghosh has been relieved of his contract which indicates at the franchise’s complete overhaul restructure.
Following an ordinary campaign at the IPL last season, the management of the Royals has decided to undergo a major overhaul. Rajasthan Royals, the winners of the inaugural edition of the cash-rich league, finished at the ninth spot on the points table. Meanwhile, the changes in the coaching team are being viewed as part of the bigger shake-up in the side.
Report further suggests that veteran Sri Lankan player Kumar Sangakkara is expected to take the role of the head coach Dravid but the franchise is yet to make a formal announcement regarding the new coach. In the coming days, big decisions are expected to be taken in consultation with lead owner Manoj Badale.
