Soon after the announcement, some social media users resurfaced her old posts and comments about Lord Rama, particularly her criticism of his treatment of Sita.

Her past views have sparked a fresh debate online, with some users questioning her association with a project based on the epic. Screenshots of her earlier posts have been widely circulated, with sections of social media criticising the singer and trolling her over the Ramayana song.

A user on Twitter wrote, “Even demons have to seek refuge in Ram.” Another one wrote, Calling Lord Rama “the worst husband for years, then singing “Jai Jai Ram” when the opportunity comes along. The power of money is so strong that even a feminist can be made to praise the same Lord Rama she once condemned. Chinmayi’s principles are strong enough to survive criticism, but weak enough to survive a paycheck.”

Chinmayi has previously spoken about the Ramayana and expressed her views on Rama and Sita’s story, including the episode involving Sita’s exile. Her comments at the time also drew discussion on social media.

The latest controversy comes as the upcoming Ramayana continues to generate considerable buzz. The film is being mounted as a two-part epic, with Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallavi playing Lord Rama and Sita, respectively. Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, the project also features Yash in a key role and is being produced on a large scale.
