Chennai: The Madras High Court has refused to grant anticipatory bail to Sathish Kumar, the Namakkal district secretary of actor Vijay’s Tamil Nadu Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) party, in connection with an alleged attack on a private hospital.. The incident occurred on September 27 during Vijay’s political campaign in the Namakkal district, leading to Kumar being named in a police case. Justice Senthil Kumar, presiding over the case, delivered a sharp rebuke to the petitioner, questioning his leadership and control over his own party members.
During the hearing, the police prosecution presented a strong case against Sathish Kumar. They informed the court that the activities of the TVK members resulted in damages worth ₹5 lakh to the private hospital. Furthermore, they submitted photographic evidence and revealed that a total of eight cases related to damage of public property have already been registered against Kumar.
“Don’t They Know How to Control Their Own Party Members?” HC Asks
Sathish Kumar, in his anticipatory bail petition, had claimed innocence, stating he was falsely implicated for “political reasons” merely for being present at the scene. He had assured the court of his full cooperation with the investigation. However, the judge was not persuaded. Justice Senthil Kumar pointedly asked, “How can the petitioner say that he did not know anything when the party members were involved in slanderous activities?”
Adding to the reprimand, the court questioned, “Don’t they know how to control even their own party members? Shouldn’t they act responsibly?” Consequently, the bench dismissed the plea. The court’s decision increases the likelihood of Kumar’s arrest as the police investigation proceeds.
