Sawan 2026: The month of Sawan is considered very sacred in Hindu religion. The special importance of the month of Saavan has been mentioned in the religious scriptures. This entire month has been dedicated to Lord Shiva. In this month, Lord Shiva is worshiped with full rituals. Fast is observed on Sawan Monday. There is a religious belief that Lord Shiva is very pleased by the worship done in the month of Sawan. Fulfills the wishes of the devotees.
According to mythological beliefs, when the heat in Lord Shiva’s body started increasing due to drinking the poison released from the churning of the ocean, the gods offered him water. This incident happened in the month of Sawan, since then the tradition of performing Jalabhishek of Lord Shiva in the month of Sawan started. According to the calendar, in the year 2026, the month of Sawan will start from 30th July and this month will end on 28th August 2026. Method of Jalabhishek of Lord Shiva
To perform Jalabhishek on Shivalinga, take bath in the morning itself. Then keep all the puja materials near Shivling. Now remember Mahadev by folding hands in front of Shivling. Then anoint Shivalinga with milk, curd, honey, ghee, sugar and sugarcane juice. During this time, add water slowly so that the stream remains thin. Chant Om Namah Shivay mantra while offering water. After this, put some black sesame seeds in Ganga water and chant Mahamrityunjaya Mantra. Then offer this water on Shivalinga. Offer betel leaves, flowers and honey to Mahadev. Light a four-sided lamp made of flour and recite Shiv Chalisa. In the end, perform Aarti of Mahadev and donate to the needy as per your capacity.
Importance of Sawan Monday
Although every day of the month of Sawan is auspicious, but Monday has the most importance. Since along with Sawan, Monday has also been dedicated to Shiva worship and fasting. According to beliefs, by observing fast on this day and performing Jalabhishek of Shivalinga, one gets special blessings of Lord Shiva. Worship done with true heart on this day gives special results.
