While sharing the post on Instagram story, Ashika Ranganath clearly said that women artistes should not be blamed, but should question the system and makers who promote such content. She wrote, “Don’t hold the actress responsible for this. The responsibility lies with the system and the producers, who still believe that these are the things that sell. Actor-actresses often work within the available opportunities, so that they can be a part of bigger projects and reach more audiences. If the female characters seem weak or incomplete, then the responsibility lies more on the writing and filmmaking decisions, and not on the actresses playing those characters.

What is the real reason for the controversy in ‘Peddi’?
Controversy surrounding the film began when some viewers raised objections to the portrayal of Janhvi Kapoor’s character. There were allegations on social media that in some scenes the female character has been objectified and the camera angles show her only as a body. The biggest controversy is about the scene in which Ram Charan’s character kisses Janhvi Kapoor without consent, which many users called a consent violation.
Director Buchi Babu Sana’s statement and apology
After the controversy escalated, director Buchi Babu Sana issued an official statement and said that his intention was never to make anyone uncomfortable. He wrote, “As a filmmaker, I believe the purpose of cinema should be to entertain, inspire and connect with the audience. It should never make anyone feel uncomfortable or insulted.” He further admitted that audience feedback on certain parts has been taken seriously and the team will make changes in those parts. They write, “If any part of the film felt this way, we respect those feelings and sincerely apologize.”

Earnings of ‘Peddi’ reached close to 200 crores
Despite the controversies, ‘Peddi’ is performing strongly at the box office and the film has so far earned over ₹191.07 crore worldwide. It is believed that on Sunday the film’s earning will cross Rs 200 crore.
