WATCH: Star India player breaks massive RECORD with two fearsome deliveries, he is.

Team India asserted their dominance on Day 1 of the first Test against the West Indies at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Just a few days after the dramatic finale of the Asia Cup 2025, Team India swiftly changed formats and gears to steamroll over the visitors.

Shubman Gill once again failed to win the toss and was asked to bowl first by West Indies captain Roston Chase. That was the only thing which went right for the Windies as they were bundled out for only 162 in the first two sessions of play.

While Mohammed Siraj was the pick of the bowlers with 4 wickets, it was Jasprit Bumrah who created yet another record on Thursday, which incidentally also happened to be Gandhi Jayanti and Dussehra in the country. Bumrah became the fastest Indian bowler to claim 50 wickets in the country, achieving this feat in 1747 balls.

The Mumbai Indians pacer managed to achieve this feat after lunch on Day 1 with two fearsome yorkers to Justin Greaves and debutant Johann Layne. Bumrah packed off West Indies top-scorer Greaves for 32 off 48 balls and followed it up with another terrific delivery to Layne.

Bumrah equaled the feat of former India pacer Javagal Srinath, who reached the 50-wicket landmark in his 24th Test in India. Former India captain Kapil Dev is third in the list, having reached 50 wickets in 25 Tests while Ishant Sharma and Mohammad Shami had achieved this in 27 Tests.

He became the first Indian fast bowler to claim 50 wickets in home Tests in World Test Championships (WTC) as well. Overall, he is the third Indian to achieve this feat after former off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin and left-arm spinner and current vice-captain Ravindra Jadeja.

He also surpassed former Australia pacer Brett Lee with most ‘bowled’ dismissals in Test cricket. Bumrah now has 65 in the longest format of the game while Lee got 64 in his career. Former England pacers James Anderson and Stuart Broad lead the way with 138 and 101 respectively while Mitchell Starc is in 3rd place with 96.
