Indian batter Sai Sudharsan has flopped for another instance as the batter was dismissed for a single-digit score in his first Test match on Indian soil.
Some have also claimed that Karun Nair could be a dominant batter in the subcontinent conditions.
The India vs West Indies home Test series will be marked as a very crucial fixture for the home side, as they are all set to prepare for a much-anticipated home season. This series is crucial for keeping their WTC campaign on track after having made a mixed start in the England tour.
Also, this series would help India prepare for a much-anticipated Test campaign against the South African side, who will be arriving in November for a long tour that also comprises red-ball action. India need to finalize their playing XI ahead of the demanding home season.
Sai Sudharsan named as India’s new no. 3 in the Indian Test side
Sudharsan, the left-handed batter in the Gujarat Titans side, dominated throughout the Indian Premier League season. Though he played stunningly over the last few seasons, the IPL 2025 ended with Sudharsan leading the run-getters chart.
After his commanding show in the IPL, Sudharsan was picked for the Indian side for the Anderson-Tendulkar trophy. Though the batter did not feature in all games, he was part of three Tests during the tour.
Having made just 140 runs in the entire England series, Sudharsan was bowled out for just 7 runs off 19 balls in the first innings of the First Test against the West Indies. He was dismissed by Roston Chase as the left-hander played an awful shot that found him trapped right in front of the stumps.
Sudharsan might lose his spot to Devdutt Padikkal in the second Test
Though the Narendra Modi Stadium track does not seem very ideal to bat on, Indian openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul handed India a stunning start. The two openers contributed significantly to an opening stand before Jaiswal was dismissed for just 36 runs.
KL Rahul held one end firmly; however, Sudharsan was also dismissed early for just 7 runs off 19 balls. This time around, Indian selectors have replaced the likes of Karun Nair with Devdutt Padikkal, after the RCB left-hander scored a stunning 150 in the first innings of the India A vs Australia A Test series.
If Sudharsan fails to perform in either innings of the West Indies Test, or if he does not get a second opportunity, then Padikkal might replace him at no. 3 for the next Test, which is scheduled to begin on the 10th of October.
