iPad Pro M5 launch with dual selfie cameras, M5 chip upgrade, release date details

New Delhi: Apple might be planning something different with its next iPad Pro refresh. After introducing the thinner OLED model in 2024, the company is now expected to add a second front camera to the upcoming M5-powered iPad Pro. This marks a first for the iPad line and seems aimed at improving video calls and selfies regardless of how you hold the device.

As per Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the 2025 iPad Pro will come with both a portrait and a landscape front camera. Apple’s current M4-based iPad Pro already features a landscape-oriented camera setup, and Face ID works in all directions. But with two front cameras, Apple might be addressing long-standing complaints from iPad users who switch orientations frequently.

Dual cameras to make life easier for iPad users

The current iPad Pro has one front camera placed in landscape mode, which Apple introduced in 2024 to make video calls more natural when the tablet is used with a keyboard. The new plan is to go a step further.

If Gurman’s report is accurate, the next iPad Pro will get two front cameras, one for portrait and one for landscape. This would let the device automatically select the right angle based on how you’re holding it, which makes sense for something that doubles as a laptop and a tablet. It also fits in with how people use iPads in real life, you flip them around constantly.

This move could also tie into Apple’s growing interest in AI-powered image processing and real-time camera adjustments. Although Gurman didn’t specify any AI features, Apple has already introduced machine learning-powered image handling on iPhones and Macs.

What else is expected from the next iPad Pro?

Apart from the camera update, the new iPad Pro will likely run on Apple’s upcoming M5 chip. According to noted Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, mass production of the M5 iPad Pro is scheduled for the second half of 2025.

If that timeline holds, Apple could announce the tablet around September or October, sticking to its usual 18-month refresh cycle. The M4 iPad Pro was released in May 2024, and Apple tends to update iPad Pro models every 1.5 years.

Other than that, no major hardware changes are expected. The OLED display and ultra-thin design introduced last year are likely to remain. These changes marked a significant shift in iPad design, and it’s rare for Apple to make back-to-back big redesigns.

Why this matters for iPad buyers

For anyone who uses the iPad for regular video calls, this change could be meaningful. Many users rely on iPads for FaceTime, Zoom, or Teams calls, especially in the work-from-home setup. A camera that always faces the right way, whether you’re holding it vertically to read or horizontally to type, could help with both framing and convenience.

Gurman didn’t say much about pricing, but if Apple sticks to its usual structure, expect the new iPad Pro to sit around the ₹1,30,000 mark in India for the base model. That’s roughly $1,500, going by Apple’s iPad Pro pricing pattern and the current exchange rate of 1 USD to ₹87.

Release timeline and credits

Mark Gurman’s report in the Power On newsletter is the main source for this update. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo’s earlier prediction about the M5 production schedule also adds weight to the September or October launch window.

So if you were holding out for the next iPad Pro, it looks like you’ll get more than just a speed bump. Two selfie cameras and a fresh chip may sound like small changes, but for long-time iPad users who rely on the device daily, it could fix some annoying issues.

More details are expected to come in the weeks leading up to Apple’s annual fall event.
