Opening of the Monsoon Session
The Monsoon Session of Parliament commenced today, Monday, with expectations of intense discussions on various issues raised by the opposition.
Prior to the session, Prime Minister Narendra Modi remarked that the monsoon symbolizes innovation and renewal, highlighting its significance for agriculture. He emphasized that this session holds great pride for the nation.
PM Modi on Operation Sindoor
During his address, PM Modi stated, ‘The military achieved its objectives in Operation Sindoor by infiltrating the terrorists’ strongholds and neutralizing them.’
Weather and Agriculture Insights
Before the session began, PM Modi reiterated, ‘The monsoon represents new beginnings and creativity. Reports indicate that the weather is progressing favorably across the country, which is beneficial for agriculture. Rainfall is crucial for the economy of farmers, the nation, rural areas, and every household. This year, we have seen a threefold increase in water reserves compared to the last decade, which will greatly benefit the economy in the coming days.’
Opposition’s Strategy to Challenge the Government
Ahead of the session, the Congress party stated that during PM Modi’s traditional address, they would raise issues such as the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Operation Sindoor, and claims of mediation by US President Donald Trump, insisting that the Prime Minister should be present in the House.
The Monsoon Session is set to run from today, July 21, until August 21, with a total of 21 meetings planned. Congress leader Jairam Ramesh took to social media platform X to comment, ‘In a short while, the Prime Minister will address the nation outside Parliament, repeating the same old, hollow statements as always.’
Ramesh Critiques PM Modi’s Attendance
Ramesh criticized PM Modi for his infrequent appearances in Parliament, stating, ‘He is rarely seen in the House, only speaking during the President’s address once a year. However, with pressing issues like the Pahalgam attack and Operation Sindoor on the agenda, he must fulfill his accountability to the nation.’
He also targeted PM Modi’s upcoming trips to the UK and Maldives, saying, ‘In just 48 hours, this super premium frequent flyer Prime Minister will embark on another foreign trip, leaving the people of Manipur with yet another reason for disappointment.’
