New Delhi: Cricket met football in London as members of the Indian cricket team caught up with Manchester United players and support staff during a bonding session between the two teams in Manchester. The Indian team is in Manchester for the upcoming 4th Test against England, which is set to get underway on Wednesday, July 23.
Ahead of the Test match, the Indian players enjoyed a fun-filled session with the Manchester United squad. Players from both sides were seen interacting with each other, sharing laughs and jerseys while also playing some cricket and football together.
Team India head coach Gautam Gambhir, who led the interaction from the Indian team, was spotted having a chat with Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim during their meeting. In a video shared by the BCCI of Team India’s meet-up with Manchester United, Gambhir provided insights into his discussions with Amorim.
Both Gambhir and Amorim are in charge of the most challenging coaching jobs in their respective sports. Amorim joined United midway through last season after a successful stint with Sporting Lisbon in Portugal. He is one of the highly rated young managers in world football at present. Gambhir revealed his chat with Amorim was focused on their ideologies regarding team sport.
“I have been here in 2014 as well, but this is a completely different experience. You end up chatting with the players, you end up chatting with Ruben (Amorim) as well. It was a nice interaction about what his ideology is towards team sport and what my ideology is towards team sport,” Gambhir said in the video shared by the BCCI.
“The basic foundation of a team sport is very similar, where I feel that a player adapts to what a team needs, rather than the team that adapts to a certain individual. And that is the culture which we want to build,” he added.
An epic crossover 🔝
