New Delhi: After getting ignored at the first round of ILT20 auction on Wednesday, former Indian player Ravichandran Ashwin has signed for the entire season of the upcoming Big Bash League (BBL), mentions a report in Cricbuzz. In what came as a big shock, none of the franchises showcased interest in the veteran Indian player at the first round of the league.
Following this, Ashwin, who had earlier signed up for a shorter stint which included just the league matches and playoffs and was expected to join BBL in the second half only, has extended his tenure and will now participate in the entire league. The BBL 2025 will start on December 14 and run till January 25, 2026.
Ashwin refuses to feature for meagre pay
The report further mentions that after getting unsold in the first round, the senior cricketer has withdrawn his name from the remaining rounds of the auction refusing to play at a meagre price. It is further mentioned in the report that the top bracket was the price he wanted as a bare minimum and at this stage of his career, he is not happy to play if the value is not met.
The premier off-spinner also said that there was always a chance of being picked in the following round but he decided not to continue. He said that he was about to pull out a few days before the auction because of the Thunder deal but since he had already committed to the ILT20 that he would enter the auction. The former Chennai Super Kings star also said that he honoured his word but wasn’t agree to lower his base price.
Earlier in the year, the legendary cricketer retired from Indian cricket as well as the Indian Premier League.
