IND vs WI 1st Test, Day 1 Tea: Siraj shines as West Indies collapse under two sessions

India’s bowlers made a blistering start to the first Test against West Indies at the Narendra Modi Stadium as they bowled out the visitors for a paltry 162 in just 44.1 overs. This marked second second-fewest overs batted by a visiting team in the first innings of a Test in India after Bangladesh’s 30.3 overs in the day-night Test at Eden Gardens in 2019. After winning the toss, West Indies chose to bat first but their fragile top order crumbled under pressure, leaving India in complete control by tea on day one.

Mohammed Siraj led the charge for India, claiming three of the first four wickets to fall. His opening spell was incisive, exploiting every bit of movement on a pitch that had more brown than green but offered just enough assistance for disciplined pace bowling. Tagenarine Chanderpaul returned for his comeback only to depart for a duck, edging one to Dhruv Jurel in a diving catch. John Campbell, who had briefly steadied the innings with two early boundaries, was undone by Jasprit Bumrah, getting caught behind following a review that confirmed the ball had clipped the bat before hitting the pads.

Siraj continued to wreak havoc as he removed Roston Chase with a sharp delivery and accounted for Justin Greaves, who top-scored with 32. His precision left the West Indies reeling, with the middle and lower order failing to apply themselves.
