The person who saved the life of a 15 -year -old girl kidnapped and set by some people in Puri district of Odisha remembered the moments on Sunday when the girl knocked on her door, shouting ‘Save me, save me’.
Dakshishyam Senapati, a resident of Balga village, said that when he opened the door after hearing the knock and screams, he could not believe his eyes. The commander told the Director General of Police (DGP) YB Khurania, “The girl was burning and screaming in pain.” The DGP reached the spot on Saturday morning to understand the incident that happened in the village.
The commander said, “The girl came to my house screaming at around eight thirty in the morning. I extinguished the fire with the help of my wife and gave her water because she was very thirsty. Later my family’s women changed her clothes.”
The commander told that he asked the girl what happened, and he was told that three unidentified people had set her on fire. The commander said, “She told that she was returning home after meeting a friend, when the three people on the motorcycle picked her up.
She told the DGP, “I did not put much emphasis because she was trembling.” The commander said that the accused had tied her hands while kidnapping the girl. He said, “But, when she reached my house, her hands were open.” The commander said that he too ran out of his house in search of the people involved in the crime, but they did not meet. He said, “The girl told me that he ran away soon after setting her on fire. The attackers must have thought that she would die on the spot, but the brave girl ran away and reached our house.”
He also told the DGP that 108 ambulances arrived at his house late, causing him to find an auto rickshaw to take the girl to the hospital. The commander said, “When we were taking him to an auto rickshaw, the ambulance arrived. The girl stopped at our house for about 90 minutes.” The girl was burnt up to 70 percent. He was taken to All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi for better treatment.
