Ravichandran Ashwin humiliated in ILT20 Auction; pulls out his name in frustration

In a major turn of events, Ravichandran Ashwin, who went unsold during the ILT20 auction, has been reported to have withdrawn from the auction, which led to no one raising the paddle for him.

In August 2025, Ravichandran Ashwin announced his retirement from the IPL, stating that he would now like to explore playing for several franchises around the globe in several T20 leagues.

Ravichandran Ashwin went unsold in the ILT20 auction

Ravichandran Ashwin, the second-highest wicket-taker for India in international cricket, announced his retirement in December 2024. He also retired from the Indian Premier League after a disappointing last season with the Chennai Super Kings.

The player intended to participate in several global leagues, which include the Big Bash League and the ILT20 league. After having already signed into the BBL, the player set a high price tag in the ILT20. His base price was set at USD 120,000 and was expected to be one of the major headlining acts in this edition.

However, what surprised all was the 39-year-old legendary spinner going unsold in the auction; however, some new updates have been lined up now.

Former New Zealand star reports Ashwin pulled out at the last moment

Former New Zealand pacer Simon Doull offered some insight into Ashwin going unsold in the auction, as he revealed that Ashwin pulled out of the auction at the last minute and was the main reason behind no one bidding for him.

“We’re hearing that he may have pulled out of the auction, which is a massive surprise. I mean, you’ve got to read the room,” Doull said during the live broadcast on YouTube.

He also cited that had Ravichandran Ashwin been available for the signings for the ILT20, he would have led to a significant spike in viewership, especially in India.

“You’ve got to understand what’s going on out there and all that money left, when there are 3-4 teams with over $400,000 left in their pot. I don’t think they came here not wanting to spend money-it’s there to be spent. If he pulled himself out, then he just hasn’t read the room. I think sides would have gone in for him,” he added.

As Ravi Ashwin wanted to feature in the ILT20, he sought a contract to turn up late for the BBL; hence, it’s unknown why the spinner would pull himself out of the auction.

Ravichandran Ashwin to make BBL debut for Sydney Thunder

Earlier last month, Ravichandran Ashwin signed for the Sydney Thunder for the next edition of the Big Bash League, which is scheduled to begin on the 14th of December this year. However, at the time of the signing, it was reported that Ravi Ashwin would join the team only in January 2026.

“Thunder was crystal clear about how they’d use me and brave enough to back it. My conversations with the leadership were excellent, and we’re fully aligned on my role,” said Ashwin in an official release issued by Thunder.

“I love how Dave Warner plays the game, and it’s always better when your leader shares your mindset. I can’t wait to perform for the Thunder Nation,” he added.
