Finn Wolfhard books second film as director

According to a report in Variety, Finn Wolfhard, his father Eric Wolfhard, and producer Rich Peete are joining hands to bring Bob Mehr’s biography Trouble Boys: The True Story of the Replacements for the big screen. Set in the ’80s, the feature will look at the legendary Minneapolis punk band known for shaping American alternative rock. On an Instagram post, Finn revealed his parents’ first date was at a concert for the band.

Father and son are going to co-write the screenplay as well. Earlier this year, Finn had told Variety, “I’ve been writing a lot of music and writing this movie with my dad, which has been really amazing. It’s about a band that I think weirdly I have a lot in common with, a lot of the members. I can’t really talk about the actual band because I don’t have the rights officially yet.” Finn, who is also a musician, has released his debut album Happy Birthday and is on his first solo tour.

More about The Replacements

Music critic Bob Mehr’s biography was published in 2016, and it showcases the band’s influence on future ’90s rock bands like Nirvana and Green Day. The Replacements’ original members include Paul Westerberg, Bob Stinson, Tommy Stinson, and Chris Mars, who, more often than not, got up to no good. In 1986, Saturday Night Live boss Lorne Michaels banned them from the show after a profanity-laced performance that led to their decline.
