Punjab Kings’ dream of reaching IPL playoffs for the second consecutive time was shattered. Last season, under the captaincy of Shreyas Iyer, Punjab made it to the playoffs and then the finals after 11 years. Even in IPL 2026, Shreyas Iyer and Punjab were seen repeating this success but suddenly fate turned such that the team missed the playoffs on the last day. Punjab failed to get its ticket by just one point and since then the video of Iyer’s sister, in which she made fun of Kolkata Knight Riders, went viral again.
At the beginning of IPL 2026 punjab kings Had made a flurry of victories. For about a month in the beginning of the tournament, Punjab was the only team which had not suffered a single defeat after playing 7 matches. The team had won 6 matches and the only match in which it could not win was due to rain interference. This match was played between Punjab and Kolkata Knight Riders but due to rain that match was canceled and both the teams shared 1-1 point.
Made fun of KKR with video
After the cancellation of this match, Shreyas Iyer’s sister Shrestha had posted a video on social media, in which some other supporters of Punjab were also with her. All of them were dancing in this video and were calling this one point as a donation for KKR. Iyer’s sister and her friends were teasing KKR by doing this because the team had lost all the initial matches and could not score any points. His account was open with this one point and hence he was being made fun of.
If only Punjab didn’t lose that 1 point…. They’re ahead in NRR as well. pic.twitter.com/aDSpTLmRSI

Then Shrestha Iyer and the supporters of Punjab were criticized a lot for this video, after which they deleted that video. But as soon as Punjab missed the playoffs, this video again went viral on social media and this time it made fun of Shrestha Iyer and Punjab Kings. Actually, Rajasthan Royals themselves qualified for the playoffs by defeating Mumbai Indians, while Punjab was out due to this.
Punjab was out by just 1 point
Now the interesting thing is that there was a difference of only 1 point between Rajasthan and Punjab. While Rajasthan had 16 points, Punjab could reach only 15. Now if that match of Punjab had not been canceled and it had collected full 2 points by defeating Kolkata, then Punjab would also have had 16 points. In such a situation, the decision would have been taken on the basis of net run rate and this is where Punjab would have benefited because its run rate was 0.309, whereas Rajasthan’s was only 0.189. In such a situation, Punjab would have gone to the playoffs and Rajasthan would have been out. But that one point ultimately upset Punjab.
