A Tata Aeris trademark application adds weight to a new report suggesting that the upcoming Tigor replacement could get a different name
Tata’s upcoming compact sedan could arrive with more than a design refresh. A new report claims that the model currently being referred to as the Tigor facelift will be called Tata Aeris and replace Tigor in the company’s lineup.
Adding to this development, a trademark record lists the TATA AERIS name for land vehicles and parts. While the filing supports Tata’s interest in the name, its use on the upcoming sedan has not been officially confirmed.
New Identity For Updated Tigor?
Tata has been preparing a substantial update for its compact sedan. Design patent images that showed slimmer headlamps, a glossy black connecting element and a more upright front-end treatment.
The bumper adopts sharper lines and a larger opening with vertical and horizontal detailing. New wheel designs, revised rear lamps and a reworked rear bumper are also expected, while the basic sedan proportions appear familiar.
If the Aeris name is adopted, these changes would accompany a broader repositioning of the model rather than being marketed simply as another Tigor facelift. The extent of that repositioning will depend on the final equipment, pricing and variant lineup.
Tiago-Inspired Cabin Updates Expected
The updated sedan is expected to borrow several features from the Tiago facelift launched earlier this year. Potential additions include a 10.25-inch touchscreen, updated digital instrument cluster, revised steering wheel, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and wireless phone charging.
A 360-degree camera, Type-C charging ports and electrically folding mirrors were also among the possibilities outlined in our previous report. Six airbags could strengthen the safety package, although final specifications remain awaited.
Petrol, CNG And Electric Version – Launch on 25th Sep
The existing 1.2-litre petrol and factory-fitted CNG powertrains are expected to continue. Their current outputs stand at 86 PS and 113 Nm in petrol mode, and 75.5 PS and 96.5 Nm in CNG mode, with five-speed manual and AMT options. Aeris.ev is also planned. Launch of new Tata Aeris will take place on 25th Sep.
New Name Could Help Revive Tata’s Sedan Sales
The possible rebranding comes as Tigor continues to trail its compact sedan rivals. Monthly volumes have hovered around 1,000 units, compared with roughly 4k for Honda Amaze, 6-7k for Hyundai Aura and 18-20k for Maruti Dzire.
A new name, combined with refreshed styling and additional features, could give Tata an opportunity to relaunch its compact sedan with a distinct identity and attract buyers who may have overlooked Tigor. Rather than another update to an established nameplate, Aeris could be positioned as a fresh offering.
