Fatehgarh Sahib: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Saturday accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab of pushing the state deeper into the drug crisis while addressing a BJP programme linked to its ‘Nasha Mukt Punjab Yatra’ in Fatehgarh Sahib.
Gupta was welcomed by Punjab BJP president Kewal Singh Dhillon and other party leaders after arriving in the district to participate in the campaign.
She said the AAP government had already lost power in Delhi and claimed that Punjab would be the next state where people would reject the party. Gupta also alleged that Delhi had been pushed into a drug-related crisis under AAP rule.
Gupta said that if the BJP comes to power in Punjab, her party would take strict action against drug traffickers and seek to put those involved in the illegal trade behind bars.
Before attending the BJP programme, Gupta paid obeisance at a gurdwara and recalled the sacrifice of the Chhote Sahibzade.
Describing Punjab as the land of the Sikh Gurus and martyrs, she said their sacrifices should inspire people to work together to make the state safer.
Gupta called for a collective effort against drug abuse, saying that government agencies, political parties and society at large would need to contribute to the campaign to make Punjab drug-free.
Her remarks came amid an intensified political debate over the drug issue in Punjab, with the BJP conducting its statewide ‘Nasha Mukt Punjab Yatra’ ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections.
