New Delhi: The Indian men’s cricket team will leave for the on Sunday, but some members of the squad are still awaiting their right-size kits.
The issue has led to repeated communication between the and JSW Inspire, which is the Indian Olympic Association’s kit supplier.
According to a PTI report, most of the sizing problems have been solved, although a few Indian cricket team players are still waiting for their kits. The Shreyas Iyer-led side is set to depart from the national capital early morning on Sunday.
The Indian players will wear two different jerseys during their stint in Japan. The Men in Blue will use their standard kit for the one-off T20I against Japan on September 22 before wearing the official Asian Games jersey for the competition starting on September 28.
“There was a sizing issue in kits of cricketers, majority of them have been rectified. There are a few left and they will be delivered to the team shortly. With players needing two different jerseys there (one for bilateral and another for Asian Games), this can happen,” an IOA source told PTI.
The kit-related problem has already affected another Indian athlete, as two-time Asian Games shot-put champion Tajinderpal Singh Toor was replaced as one of India’s flag-bearers for the Asian Games opening ceremony. He could not travel to Nagoya from the training base in Tsukuba because he had not received his official Games kit. Kabaddi star Pawan Sehrawat was named as his replacement alongside Manu Bhaker.
BCCI leaves nothing to chance, makes own hotel arrangements
Considering all the delays faced by other Indian athletes in getting their accommodation in Nagoya, the board has decided to make its own hotel arrangements for the Asian Games. There were also concerns over the cricketing facilities, including the field of play. Harmanpreet Kaur and Co., however, have been staying in the accommodation provided by the IOA.
“The women’s team accommodation was never an issue. The rooms provided by the organisers for the men’s team did not even have space to keep the kit bags. There are not many big hotels there but the BCCI has managed to make its own arrangements shortly before their departure to Japan,” a PTI source said.
Some of the athletes participating in the Asian Games 2026 had to wait for long hours before checking into their accommodation. Unlike the previous editions, there is no dedicated Games Village this time around. Instead, the athletes will be accommodated across cruise ships, specially arranged containers and hotels.
