New Delhi: Vice President Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar has appealed to all political parties in the country to maintain mutual respect and stop using harsh or disrespectful language against each other. Speaking at the inauguration of the eighth batch of the Rajya Sabha Internship Programme (RSIP) at the Vice-President’s Enclave, he said that the growing bitterness in politics and TV debates is against India’s civilisational values.
He stressed the importance of respecting every political leader, no matter which party they belong to. “Avoid personal attacks. Don’t call each other names. Let us have a culture of dialogue, not confrontation,” he said. He added that no politician or political party in India is anti-national, they may have different ways of thinking, but all aim for the country’s development.
Dhankhar urged the youth to use their voice to encourage healthy political discussion, especially on social media. He said young minds can play a powerful role in changing the tone of political discourse. “When we see debates on television, what do we usually hear? Bitter arguments. Aren’t our ears tired of it?” he asked.
He called on politicians to avoid politicizing national interest, development, and issues of national security. “India is a sovereign country. Why should our political agenda be influenced by forces that are against our nation?” he questioned.
Dhankhar also emphasized the need for meaningful debates in the upcoming monsoon session of Parliament. He said that true democracy involves listening to others’ points of view, not just pushing one’s own opinion. “That is not democracy; that is ego,” he said.
