New Delhi: Union minister G Kishan Reddy on Wednesday said the government is stepping up measures to handle the festive season rush in train travel, particularly during Dussehra.
In a post on X, Reddy said the South Central Railways has made extensive arrangements, including:
- Operating 1,450 special trains
- Handling around 500 passing-through specials
- Attaching extra coaches to nearly 350 regular trains on popular routes
The festival season is when a lot of people wish to spend time with their families.
Keeping in mind the Dusshera festival and the festive season rush throughout the month, the Government of India is taking several steps to cater to this rush by augmenting train services.

Secunderabad station, which usually handles 1.3 lakh passengers daily, is expected to see footfalls rise to around two lakh per day during the festive period. Passenger holding areas are being set up at the station to manage the surge.
The minister said these measures will remain in effect until the end of November.
