For years, one car has been India’s most affordable way to seat seven people, and it’s about to get a serious upgrade. We’re talking about a real power boost, a factory-fitted CNG option, and a launch date just days away. Unlike regular facelifts that add cosmetic changes, this seven-seater will address its weaknesses.
Most Affordable 7-Seater Coming
We’re talking about the Renault Triber, and it is set to receive its biggest update yet. Test mules have already been spotted with a ‘Turbo’ badge on the tailgate and a CNG sticker on the rear windscreen, suggesting the automaker will finally address the Triber’s key shortcomings.
Turbo Power, Finally
Currently, the Triber is powered by a 1.0-litre NA petrol engine that makes 72 bhp and 96 Nm of torque. For a seven-seater, these figures seem ineffective. The new Triber is expected to borrow the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine from the Kiger, which, in its current tune, makes around 99 bhp and 160 Nm of torque. That’s a solid output jump. Transmission options are expected to include a five-speed manual and a CVT automatic.
Right now, the Triber CNG gets a dealer-fitted kit. That’s set to change with a factory-fitted, dual-cylinder CNG setup, and this is what matters: the tanks are expected to sit under the floor rather than eating into the boot space. This could be done by shifting the Triber to Renault’s new RGEP (Renault Group Entry Platform).
Expected Pricing
The Triber is currently priced between Rs. 6.55 lakh and Rs. 9.91 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). The Turbo and CNG variants will command a premium, though Renault hasn’t confirmed exact figures yet. The updated model is expected to launch by the end of September. Now, if Renault gets the pricing right, this could be a game-changing move for the Triber.
