Ravana gets curse
Curses Given to Ravan: Ravana, one of the main characters of Ramayana, is considered a villain. Dashanan Ravana was an ardent devotee of Lord Shiva and also a scholar. He had knowledge of 4 Vedas and 6 scriptures. But despite this, he used to commit sin, due to which in the end Lord Shri Ram killed him. The day Lord Rama killed him, it was the Dashami date of Shukla Paksha of Ashwin month. Since then, the festival of Dussehra is celebrated every year on this day, which is also known as Vijayadashami. On 2 October 2025, Dussehra will be celebrated with great pomp across the country. What were Ravana cursed?
Ravana had found many curses in his life, but mainly he got curse of six people, due to which he came to an end. These include King Anranya, Shiva’s vehicle Nandi, Mandodari’s sister Maya, an unknown woman, Nalakuber (son of Kubera) and sister Shurpanakha.
1. Curse of Raja Anaranya
King Anranya cursed Ravana that a person would be born in his own lineage who would kill Ravana. Anaranya was from the Ikshvaku dynasty of Lord Rama and he had a fierce war with Ravana, in which he died. King Anranya cursed Ravana in his last time.
2. Maya’s curse
Ravana asked her to walk with her husband Maya’s husband Maya, the sister of his wife Mandodari. Then Maya cursed her and said that you tried to disturb my truth for your sex, so my husband died. Now the lust of a woman will be the reason for your death.
3. Curse of Nandi
Nandi had cursed Ravana that the monkey would destroy him, because Ravana had made fun of the form of Nandi after meeting Lord Shiva on Mount Kailash. Due to this curse of Nandi, Hanuman ji consumed Ravana’s gold Lanka and the monkey army became the reason for the end of Ravana.
4. A woman’s curse
Ravana once traveled by his Pushpak plane insulted a beautiful woman, which gave her a curse that she would die due to a woman.
5. Curse of Nal Kubera
Ravana tried to kidnap Rambha, the wife of Nal Kubera, son of his sister Shurpanakha, so that Nal Kubera cursed her that if she was strongly formed with any woman or touched against the woman’s will, then her head would be divided into seven pieces.
6. Curse of Shurpanakha
Shurpanakha cursed Ravana that because of me, you will be destroyed. This was found after Ravana’s sister Shurpanakha after the murder of her husband Vidyutjihva. Due to this curse, Shurpanakha hated Rama and Lakshmana and provoked Ravana for Sita’s Haran, which resulted in the end of Ravana.
