Stock Market closed for 11 days in October? Check share market holidays this year, Muhurat trading time on October 21

The Indian stock market will remain closed for 11 days in October 2025, including weekends, with three official trading holidays during the festive season.

The Multi-Commodity Exchange (MCX) and currency derivatives segments will also remain shut on these days.

Stock Market Holidays In October

  • October 2 – Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti / Dussehra
  • October 21 – Diwali Laxmi Pujan
  • October 22 – Diwali Balipratipada

Muhurat Trading 2025

Both NSE and BSE have announced that the Muhurat Trading session for Diwali will be held on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, between 1:45 pm and 2:45 pm. “All trades executed in this session will result in settlement obligations,” NSE said in its circular.

The special session, which will be the beginning of Samvat 2082 in the Hindu calendar, is considered auspicious and is believed to bring prosperity and growth to investors. Last year, the Muhurat session was held from 6 pm to 7 pm.

Out of 14 stock market holidays in 2025, five remain for the year:

  • October 2 – Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti / Dussehra
  • October 21 – Diwali Laxmi Pujan
  • October 22 – Diwali Balipratipada
  • November 5 – Prakash Gurpurb Sri Guru Nanak Dev
  • December 25 – Christmas

Stock Market Today

The 30-share BSE Sensex climbed 142.63 points to 80,410.25 in early trade. The 50-share NSE Nifty went up by 50.75 points to 24,661.85.

From the Sensex firms, Sun Pharma, Trent, Tech Mahindra, Mahindra & Mahindra, Tata Motors and Reliance Industries were among the major gainers.

However, Bajaj Finance, Eternal, Bajaj Finserv and Bharti Airtel were among the laggards.

In Asian markets, South Korea’s Kospi traded in positive territory, while Japan’s Nikkei 225 index quoted lower. US markets ended higher on Tuesday.
