Actress Raveena Tandon has reminisced about her much-loved on-screen pairing with Govinda, saying she believes only Karisma Kapoor and she have shared the same level of chemistry with the Bollywood star.
Raveena will appear as a special guest on the semi-final episode of India’s Best Dancer Season 5, where she will recall her association with Govinda and share the story behind their 1998 comedy Dulhe Raja.
Speaking to host Harssh Limbachiyaa, Raveena recalled that she and Govinda, fondly known as Chichi, had previously signed films together, but the projects failed to materialise. Their collaboration eventually took shape during a trip to Calcutta for a store opening.
According to Raveena, Govinda suggested that they should work together on a film. The two subsequently visited a Kali Mata temple early in the morning before beginning work on Dulhe Raja.
Recalling the experience, she said their visit to the temple was followed by the start of the film the very next day, and the collaboration “worked out so well” for both of them.
Raveena also praised Govinda’s dancing, comic timing and overall performance skills, saying she had learnt the nuances of comedy timing from him.
She recalled that their shared love for dance became a playful challenge while shooting the song “Ladka Deewana Lage”. The two would challenge each other to deliver the better shot, she said, adding that the chemistry they developed during the song continued through several subsequent projects.
Raveena and Govinda later worked together in films including Gair, Dariya Dil, Gharana and Aunty No. 1.
The actress said that even today, whenever she speaks about Govinda, she feels that apart from Karisma Kapoor, popularly known as Lolo, and herself, few actresses have paired with him as brilliantly.
India’s Best Dancer Season 5 airs on Sony Entertainment Television and Sony LIV.
