Dr. J Radhakrishnan arrived to meet the injured laborers
According to preliminary reports, an arches under construction fell about 30 feet below. Many migrant laborers were buried under it. Dr. J Radhakrishnan, Secretary, Tamil Nadu Electricity Board and President of Tamil Nadu Production and Distribution Corporation Limited (TangedCO) went to Stanley Government Hospital to meet the injured laborers and assess the situation. Awadi Police Commissionerate said that the exact reason for falling the arches is not yet known. The rescue operation is on and investigation into the incident has been started.

The arches fell at Mattuthwani bus stand in Madurai
Let me tell you that in another incident in February this year, an Arthamwar operator was killed while demolishing the prestigious arches located at Mattuthwani bus stand in Madurai. The contractor was seriously injured. The arches, built on the occasion of the 5th World Tamil Conference in 1981 under the reign of MG Ramachandran, became a hindrance due to road expansion.
