Cholesterol in India 2025: Metropolis Healthcare analyzed the lipid profile test of about 3.9 lakh people in the last one year, and revealed that one in every four Indians is out of normal cholesterol level. It was clear from this report that the reduction of good cholesterol i.e. HDL has become the most common problem, and this is the biggest danger of heart disease.

Heart diseases are increasing continuously in India and one of the major reasons for this is being considered a disturbance of cholesterol. If cholesterol of one out of every four Indian is unusual, then it is a matter of great concern for our society. These figures show that the problem of cholesterol is no longer limited to the elderly or obese people, but is also growing rapidly in the young and middle age groups.

How is cholesterol condition?

Dr. Ajit Jain in the Cardiology Department at Rajiv Gandhi Hospital says that The report revealed that HDL cholesterol (good cholesterol) remains the biggest problem of today. HDL levels were found to be lower than normal in about 37% of people. Understand that when HDL is low, the risk of heart disease increases, as HDL helps in removing bad cholesterol (LDL) from the body.

  • At the same time, total cholesterol was found above normal in 30% of people.
  • The amount of triglycerides was also found unusual in 33% of people.
  • Non-HDL cholesterol was higher than normal in 24% of people.
  • LDL cholesterol (poor cholesterol) was also found to be higher than normal in 25% of people.

What is changing lifestyle?

The report says that today our lifestyle and some revenge in catering have given rise to this situation. The tendency to take more processed and more oily-cubs has increased. Exercise or physical activity has reduced. In metropolis data, people in the age group of 31 to 60 years have more cholesterol cases, where there is no more likely to be active lifestyle. Lipid abnormalities are often seen when the disease has started. Not getting investigated from time to time is also a big reason.

What to do: solution and safety measures

This report gives the direction that to reduce health risk, we have to take some important steps:

Get regular lipid profile tests- Especially if there is a history of heart disease in your family.

Change the diet: Eat less foods with fried and fat, include fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains and healthy fats (eg fish, walnuts).

Exercise regularly –At least 150 minutes a week, medium-motion activity such as fast walking or cycling.

No smoking- Quit smoking and limit the amount of alcohol.

Distance from Strees- Take care of stress, sleep and mental health.
