Anupriya Nagar, the producer of ‘, has shared her thoughts on the film’s unexpected success. The story resonates deeply with her personal journey. While studying in the UK, she researched Neem Karoli Baba and discovered that influential figures like Steve Jobs were inspired by him. This revelation sparked a question in her mind: Why did she learn about Baba through foreigners, despite being Indian?
This curiosity led Nagar to consider how to share Baba’s story with a new generation. Initially, she thought about writing a book or creating a comic. However, fate guided her to the script of ‘Hanuman Ansh’. The film has received a warm reception from audiences, and its performance has surpassed her expectations.
Recalling her journey, Nagar said, “I was studying economics in the UK and had secured a job there, with no plans to return to India. During my final year, I learned about Neem Karoli Baba’s influence on Steve Jobs and others. This made me wonder why I discovered Baba through non-Indians.”
Nagar described how she began to think of different ways to present this story to people, especially from a Gen Z perspective. After returning to India, she met producer Ragini Sona, who informed her about ‘Hanuman Ansh’ and its completed filming. Intrigued, Nagar expressed a desire to read the script.
“I read the 120-page script in one sitting,” she recalled. “I felt a deep connection to the story, becoming emotional at times. This experience made me realize that if I was so moved by just reading the script, the film would undoubtedly impact viewers even more.”
Nagar admitted she did not anticipate the film’s success. “The earnings have exceeded our expectations. I view this success not just in terms of box office numbers but also in how people are connecting with the film,” she stated.
‘Hanuman Ansh’ was made on a budget of around ₹2 crore and initially earned ₹10 lakh on its opening day. Although the start was slow, word of mouth increased its popularity, leading to a significant rise in earnings. By the 37th day after its release, the film had netted ₹18.50 crore on a Saturday, with a total net collection of ₹192.13 crore in India.
