New Delhi: The sacred time of Navratri is the most auspicious occasion to experience the devotion and power of Goddess Durga. This festival is considered incomplete without Kanya Pujan. On Ashtami and Navami, Goddess Durga is believed to visit every home in the form of young girls. The true essence of Kanya Pujan is to see the divine form of the Goddess in little girls, to respect them, and to feel the grace of the Mother in their smiles.
On this day, their feet are washed, they are seated on an asana, a tilak is applied on their forehead, and a sacred thread (kalawa) is tied on their hand. Then, they are lovingly served offerings of halwa, puri, and black chana. When we touch their feet for blessings, it is believed that the Mother Goddess herself blesses us in the form of these young girls.
